Favre considers trade, possibly to Bucs
It might be coincidence, but Tampa Bay General Manager Bruce Allen did not attend the Bucs' practice today, which is unusual for him, reports said.
The person said the New York Jets also remain interested if they can acquire Favre in the next few days, but Favre appears more interested in the Bucs.
Tampa Bay runs a version of the West Coast offense, which Favre has played in for 16 seasons in Green Bay; the Bucs' coach, Jon Gruden, is a former Packers assistant; and Tampa Bay is a short flight from Favre's home in Hattiesburg, Miss.
After extensive meeetings with coach Mike McCarthy at the Packers' headquarters on Monday night and this morning, Favre met with GM Ted Thompson and team President and Chief Executive Officer Mark Murphy at his home in Ashwaubenon for about an hour this afternoon. They had the meeting at Favre's home so his wife, Deanna, could take part in the discussions.
Favre did not practice with the Packers this afternoon.
If Favre can't play for the Packers – he told ESPN earlier today that the best thing for both sides is to "part ways" – he most wants to play for a team in the NFC North Division, presumably Minnesota.
Thompson has strongly resisted trading Favre within the division, though Favre might have been able to force his hand that way by practicing with the team, which is his right as a player on the 80-man roster.
However, Favre left the Packers' facility and doesn't appear to be forcing the issue.
So it appears there's a good chance he'll be traded to the Bucs, whom the person said have been calling daily to keep a possible deal alive; the Jets; or perhaps as a long-shot, the Vikings.
Brett Favre Traded To Tampa Bay
Brett Favre has been traded to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers!
What a bad, terrible, awful mistake on the part of Packer's Management, and what an awesome stroke of luck for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers!
